Held at Claridge's, London, the Board Table event on 28 January was aimed at CEOs and was professionally mediated by John O'Connell (Chairman of InforSense and ex Chairman and Founder of Staffware).
The core issues discussed were: 1. how to succeed in the USA and 2. product positioning. Each delegate had the opportunity to present a short overview of his company outlining a specific business challenge to the group. An open forum followed where members shared ideas on the topic and suggested solutions that would have the most profitable or optimum impact on their business. This was timed by the Mediator to allow all delegates the opportunity to discuss their current challenges. Chatham House Rules applied.
The “Board Table” event format was been designed to promote collaborative thinking with a view to enhancing executive skills, improving productivity and ultimately providing great value from long term vision.
The Chairman's Network will be holding further Board Table events later this year for Chairmen and NXDs. These events will enable you to share ideas and gain insight from a peer network of experienced execs with a view to obtaining valuable feedback, giving you fresh perspectives and assisting you in solving difficult problems.
What the delegates thought:
"The main benefit of the Board Table event was the opportunity to discuss issues, problems and successes with other CEOs in a confidential environment where one could speak quite freely. It was a very well organised event, with a great Mediator and the feedback proved invaluable." - Robin LaFontaine, CEO Delta XML
“The Board Table event gave me the opportunity to participate in the learning experiences of other executives through active and open discussion. The other delegates openly offered their opinions and advice and confidentiality was maintained throughout." - Des Speed, CEO Lagan
“I really enjoyed the CEO board table event, it was interesting to hear other issues and to be able to contribute a view as well as get insight from others in relation to my own issue. I felt my time was very well spent attending and would certainly consider attending future events of this kind. Another good initiative from the Chairman’s Network – Thank you so much. “ - Gerry Sweeney, CEO Hornbill Systems
