Speaker: Lord Norman Blackwell

Speech:
'How can government best support businesses in creating wealth and future prosperity?'

Drawing on his experience of working in both government and board rooms, Lord Blackwell set out some challenging perspectives on the interface between government policy and business.

He talked about the government's top priority - the growth agenda - and the need to focus on a few big things that would make a difference.

He suggested 5 keys areas that the government should focus on:

  • restructuring the public sector
  • higher savings
  • education reform
  • promotion of high value service exports
  • securing low cost energy
